Background

My Name Neeraj Sen, I am a visually impaired person, I am from a village Kamadpur, Tehsil Mhow, near to Indore City of Madhya Pradesh have lost my vision slowly after the year 2018, but I complete my Graduation and post-graduation with technical certifications under digital literacy to empower myself. Previously I have worked has home tutors to Visually impaired person and Currently I am working as Sr. Trainer at MP Welfare Association of the blind for the EnAble India’s Parivartan Centre since November, 2024.

Teaching Approach

To ensure that the digital literacy training is to be inclusive, interactive, and effective for visually impaired participants, the following approaches and ideas were implemented:

  1. Screen Reader–Friendly Content
    • All training materials were designed to be compatible with screen readers such as NVDA and JAWS.
    • Shortcuts and commands were demonstrated live so learners could follow along using their own devices.
  2. Hands-On, Step-by-Step Practice
    • Each concept was taught through real-time practice sessions.
    • After a brief explanation, participants performed the tasks themselves to build confidence.
  3. Verbal Descriptions & Clear Instructions
    • Visual elements (icons, buttons, layouts) were described in detail.
    • Instructions were given in simple, sequential steps to avoid confusion.
  4. Peer Learning & Group Activities
    • Learners were paired for collaborative exercises, encouraging peer support and problem-solving.
    • Group discussions allowed participants to share personal tips and tricks.
  5. Adaptive Tools & Accessibility Features
    • Demonstrated accessibility settings like high-contrast themes, text-to-speech, and keyboard shortcuts.
    • Introduced mobile apps designed for visually impaired users.
  6. Individualized Support
    • Offered one-on-one guidance for participants who required extra assistance.
    • Maintained flexibility in pace, ensuring no learner was left behind.
  7. Practical, Goal-Based Modules
    • Training focused on everyday tasks: using email, online safety, digital payments, and navigation apps.
    • Each module ended with a small project to reinforce learning.
  8. Feedback & Continuous Improvement
    • Regular feedback sessions identified challenges and helped refine teaching methods.
    • Participants were encouraged to voice difficulties and request demonstrations.

Area of Expertise

Being a Visually Impaired person I have command on Screen Reader software like JAWS and NVDA with MS office, Internet and some other application useful for a visually impaired person.

Three Days ToT Workshop on Awareness Facilitation for Person with Vision Impairment at Atmadeepam Society, Nagpur organized by EnAble India.

Six Days ToT Workshop on Digital Literacy Program and Teaching Methodologies for person with Vision Impairment at MP welfare association of the blind, Indore organized by EnAble India.

One year EMET program in computer through Help the Blind Foundation in Computer, Communicative English, Mobility, Employability Training in year 2020.

One month internship at Help the Blind Foundation in Education, Mobility, Employability Training.

One-month online internship at Help the Blind Foundation in Education, Mobility, Employability Training.

Job Oriented Short Term EMET Training at Help the Blind Foundation.

3 months online training on Personality development by Chiranthana in association by with HTBF (Sept 2020- Nov 2020).
