Sajosh K S

Trainer, National association for the blind Goa state branch

Background

I’m Sajosh K S, a digital literacy trainer and accessibility advocate dedicated to empowering individuals with visual impairments through inclusive education and technology. Over the past five years, I’ve trained more than 300 candidates across India, set up accessibility labs, and led workshops that bridge the gap between disability and opportunity.

Currently, I serve at the National Association for the Blind, Goa State Branch, where I design and deliver foundational training in computers, mobility, and employability. My programs include the Basics of Computer Training for Adults, Foundation Course in Computers and Employability, and Fundamentals of Computers and Mobility. I also provide smartphone training using TalkBack, helping learners navigate mobile technology independently.

I support school teachers by enhancing their digital literacy and guiding them in using Bookshare to make classrooms more inclusive. I’ve conducted awareness workshops at Goa University, the Central Library of Goa, and various colleges and companies across Goa, promoting accessibility and inclusive practices.

My role includes managing inclusive education programs, conducting job analyses at companies like Taj Hotel, Marriott, and Goa Miles, and facilitating successful placements for our candidates.

Previously, at Andhajan Shala in Gujarat, I led the setup of an accessibility lab and delivered hands-on training in computer and mobile technology aligned with the Gujarat State Board syllabus. I supported both students and teachers in adopting digital tools and Bookshare resources, and provided mobility and office skills training.

Through the Factual Online Training Centre, I launched nationwide virtual computer courses in English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi, offering structured instruction in NVDA screen reader usage, MS Office applications, and internet navigation—reaching learners of all ages across India.

Before entering the accessibility space, I worked in healthcare and engineering—serving patients at Aster Medcity and installing computerized tailoring machines across Kerala. These experiences shaped my adaptability and strengthened my service-oriented mindset.

I’m a certified trainer through Enable India, with a Higher Secondary qualification from the National Institute of Open Schooling, and have completed multiple professional development programs in digital literacy and employability. I’m fluent in English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi, and known for my warmth, team spirit, and self-motivation.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, cooking, fishing, boating, swimming, and learning new languages. One of my proudest community projects was advocating for breastfeeding cabins in hospitals, and I’m honoured to have been recognized as an “A” grade NCC cadet.

As a person with total blindness, I believe in turning challenges into opportunities. My journey is driven by resilience, innovation, and a vision for a more inclusive society—where every individual is empowered to realize their potential.

Teaching Approach

As a program coordinator and advocate for visually impaired students, my teaching philosophy is rooted in empathy, adaptability, and empowerment. I believe that effective training begins with understanding each student’s individual interests, capacity, and learning style. Before diving into any curriculum, I take time to assess where they are—both in terms of skill and confidence—and then tailor my approach accordingly.

Some unique methods I follow include:

  • Interest-Based Learning: I actively explore what excites each student—whether it’s technology, storytelling, or problem-solving—and use that as a gateway to build digital literacy and life skills. This not only boosts engagement but also fosters long-term motivation.
  • Friendly and Respectful Interaction: I maintain a warm, approachable demeanor, ensuring students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Building trust is essential, especially in inclusive education settings where emotional support plays a key role.
  • Accessibility-First Mindset: I’m proactive in identifying barriers—like noisy classrooms that interfere with screen reader use—and work to create environments that support every learner. Whether it’s translating instructions into local languages or troubleshooting tech challenges, I make sure no one is left behind.
  • Structured Yet Flexible Training: I design sessions that are well-organized but leave room for spontaneous learning moments. I often synthesize multi-source feedback to refine my methods and ensure they remain relevant and impactful.
  • Celebrating Progress: I highlight strengths and achievements, no matter how small, to build confidence and a sense of accomplishment. This is especially important when preparing students for independent board exams or introducing new AI tools.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students not just learn—but believe in their ability to thrive. Teaching, for me, is not just about transferring knowledge; it’s about nurturing independence, dignity, and joy in learning.

Area of Expertise

My key areas of expertise lie in inclusive education, digital literacy, and accessibility training for visually impaired students. I specialize in helping learners build confidence with screen readers, mobile devices, and AI tools—especially in preparation for independent board exams and skill-based assessments.

I’m particularly skilled at creating calm, focused classroom environments where students can engage meaningfully with auditory tools, even in challenging settings. I also translate complex instructions into local languages to ensure accessibility for all learners.

Beyond teaching, I contribute to program development and feedback synthesis, helping shape strategies that reflect real classroom realities. Whether I’m guiding a student through their first screen reader interaction or supporting broader institutional goals, my focus is always on empowerment, clarity, and long-term growth.
