Background
My name is Sameer Ullah Sheikh, and I am from Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. From 2000 to 2014, I worked in various marketing roles until I lost my vision. After becoming blind, I worked as a computer trainer at Help Foundation Srinagar from September 2018 to September 2019. For the past four years, I have been working with Enable India. I enjoy traveling, trekking, meeting new people, and spreading awareness about disability.
Teaching Approach
We employ a variety of approaches to enhance the learning experience for our candidates. Here are some of the key methods we utilize:
• Hands-on learning using real-life tasks and devices to build confidence and independence among visually impaired learners.
• Step-by-step demonstrations with repetition, allowing learners to practice using screen readers, mobile apps, and assistive tools at their own pace.
• Peer learning and role models: Encouraging interaction with trained peers or successful persons with visual impairments to build motivation.
• Adaptive teaching methods based on each learner’s pace, background, and level of vision.
• Workplace readiness focus, integrating tasks such as email writing, navigation, and communication that are essential for jobs.
• Using simple language, real-time feedback, and follow-up support after training sessions to ensure long-term skill retention.
• I also design theme-based workshops like Reading Without Seeing and career awareness sessions that combine learning with awareness and advocacy.
